Paraphrasing B E

All around the United States elementary and middle schools are developing a new way to report children’s progress to their parents. This new way implements color rather than grades, and offered more information as to how the child is doing in sub-categories on a subject as well as overall. A red means the student is just beginning to grasp the ideas or is not on track with learning it, yellow means the student is on track with learning the material, and green means the student has mastered the material. This information helps parents determine exactly what their child need help with and what they are excelling at in every subject. Teachers also provide a paragraph summary of how each child is doing with each report. To help parents become accustomed to this new format, schools in Kentucky sent a regular report card and a new report card home for parents for two grading periods. After a survey, most parents preferred the new version. This model is more common for younger kids, since high schools and colleges are still adapted to the normal grading style. However, in Illinois in 2014 a survey found that all the public universities and four-fifths of the private universities supported the standards-based grading system. This style is young now, but may increase in popularity as more parents become involved.

Some schools around the United States are trying a new way for reporting student’s grades to their parents. This new form is standards-based and adds subcategories to each learning subject on a report card. A red means the student is just beginning to grasp the ideas or is not on track with learning it, yellow means the student is on track with learning the material, and green means the student has mastered the material. It is more work for teachers to document, but it provides more informations as to how the student is doing in every discipline of a subject. A large amount of parents are on-board with this new reporting style.
