Paraphrasing Huseby

200-250 Words
When it comes to grading systems in schools, things are changing. This is because it helps parents follow along with the progress of their child and can see where the child needs help. Rather than using a typical letter grading system which only indicates how the student is doing in the class by mastering the whole subject, the color grading system uses 70 different skills to help break down the students learning progress into sections so it is easier to grasp what areas need help and what areas don’t. These skills are divided into three different sections, or colors: green, yellow, and red. Green indicates that the student has mastered the skill they are learning. Yellow indicates that the student is on track, and red indicates that the student is just getting started or has a ways to go before understanding the material. In a study done, it was found that the majority of parents preferred the color grading system over the letter grading system. Some parents find this to be unfair because it gives students an unfair advantage to get good grades, but that is exactly the point. Grades are now become more about the students themselves and their skills and less about the best grades and who’s on top. This would give teachers the ability to become better teachers based on each individual student’s needs.

The color grading system allows both parents and teachers to understand the different skills or needs that each child needs to master, based on the colors green, yellow, and red. Green indicates that the student has mastered the skill, yellow indicates that the student is on track, and red indicates that the student is just getting started or has a ways to go before understanding the material.
