Scholarly Statement Alex T

I am interested in many different things, whether or not I am good at them doesn't matter to me. Some of the things I like to do include drawing, playing video games, reading books, and watching anime. I am not very good at drawing but I still enjoy it when I have free time or when I am stressed. I have always loved video games, I grew up playing Pokemon and Legend of Zelda. I have always loved to read books, this is one of the reasons why I chose my major. My friend introduced me to anime four years ago and ever since I've been hooked.
I have liked writing when I can have freedom to write about whatever I want. I took a creative writing class in high school and I loved it. We had to write quite a few different poems, several prose, and a very short play. I enjoyed being able to choose whatever topic I wanted, as long as it fit the outline. I also liked some of the prose, in a few we were given a prompt, it either said a phrase that you had to begin with or end with. This was very interesting because I could interpret it however I wanted and expand from it. There was one essay I liked last semester, we had to write a paper in character, this was a little difficult but it was interesting.
There have been times when I didn't like writing. These were the papers where I couldn't have as much freedom to be creative. I also don't like papers where you have to find a specific number of sources and then you have to write a paper that has to be a certain length.
What motivates me to write is that I can convey a message through my writing, I can also just write whatever is on my mind, it doesn't have to be serious. It's also nice to know that I can keep whatever I write completely private, I don't have to show anyone if I don't want to and in a few years I can look back and read what I wrote.
One thing I want to know more about is the Universe. I want to know things like; how big is it? How many planets are there? I also want to know how people can make a constellation from just one or two stars.
I am an English major, anytime I tell someone this they automatically think I will be a teacher. I still don't know what T want to do, I don't think I would make a good teacher. Everyone says that besides becoming a teacher there isn't much I can do with my major.
