Scholarly Statement Dylan Hillger

I am a Math major with a Business minor. I enjoy solving difficult math problems even though they can be a pain in the butt sometimes. It is the sense of accomplishment that makes it worth it. My interest are watching movies, television, sports, and playing my Xbox. I enjoy having conversations about sports, mostly football, and learning other people's thoughts on current issues within sports. I also enjoy conversations about movies and television just to see what other people are interested in. I know a little about business organizations and I want to know more about financing and accounting. I watch a lot of Shark Tank and I find it awesome when people close a deal with an investor and their business takes off. It is essentially the American Dream. Being able to see people come from nothing to something motivates me to be the best I can be. I have a full life ahead of me yet and there is still plenty to be learned.

I believe that everyone likes to write about something, whether it is a song, book, poetry, etc… the list can go on and on. Everyone has their own interests in what they write, but there does come a time in most people's lives when they have to write about something they particularly don't like. With all of that being said, out of all the things I enjoy I would have to say that writing is near the bottom (just an honest opinion). When I do write though, I enjoy incorporating movies or television scenes into the topic I'm writing about to give it a fresh break while also being about the same topic. Another thing I try to incorporate into papers is humor, who doesn't like to laugh. Then there are things I despise about writing. My number one thing would be writing long papers. For instance, I was in a sustainability class last semester and we had to write a 5 page paper on the project my group did, recycling batteries. It was one of those papers where you run out of things to write about by the third page and the rest repeats itself. It's not attractive to the reader and I would rather not do that again. I also enjoy reading books, but I have a hard time describing something in writing, therefore I despise it. In the end, it depends on the person and what they enjoy and what they don't.
