Solution Paper Bob Kinne

I found this part of my paper to be particularly interesting:I found it interesting to look up all of this research for one little topic never had to do something over a long period of time.

This part was surprisingly difficult: I thought is was pretty had to make the paper long. i felt like i was repeating my self sometimes.

Next time I would do this differently:i would try to keep making it longer and work on my spelling errors

Then, spend a couple of minutes reflecting on your process in writing.: i think i did a really good job with this paper i did well to cite all of my sources and use backup information to help my solution sound like the best best one for the schools to put in place for the kids. i think i was the best paper that i have written for you so far this year.

Cause Argument

The paper is giving all of us a little teats of what the world is like today as a youth boy or girl. We all know that fast food and being lazy is a huge part of the world today. First I will introduce the situation that is taking place. Then I will show how the school need to change and make being activate for 60 minutes a day is very vital to the health of all the kids across the United States not just the kids that are obese but all of the kids. Lastly I will go over the counterarguments and concede that they are good alternative to my solution but not the best one out there for the schools. There is much other solution that can be used to help America to become a healthier country. Here is the introduction to the topic.

In this Causal Argument I will be talking about Childhood Obesity and how physical inactivity correlates to it. This national problem started about 30 years ago; the US has been becoming obese. Obesity means having too much body fat. Obesity occurs over time when an individual eats more calories than he or she uses. The balance between calories taken in and calories burned differs for each person. Factors that might affect weight include genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If someone is obese, losing even 5 to 10 percent of his or her weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. Physical activity is also very important. Kids need about 60 minutes each day. It does not have to happen all at once. Several short periods of activity during the day are just as good. This is why it is so important for us as a country to help kids from becoming obese. It is on the responsibility of the adults to watch what foods their kids are taking in, and how active their kids are. The schools that we send our kids to need to have a gym class each day to keep the kids in a healthy physical state, and we need to make sure that the food we are serving to them is highly nutritious to help benefit our kids as they grow old so they don’t have diseases like heart disease and arthritis. Therefore we need to put in place healthy meals for kids to eat at lunchtime and have some physical activity in their schedules for 60 minutes a day.
According to Kohl and Harold, “The committee recognized that, although schools are a necessary part of any solution to the problem of inadequate physical activity among the nation’s youth, schools alone couldn’t implement the vast changes across systems required to achieve a healthy and educated future generation.” (Kohl and Harold 2). The population as a whole is very lazy and has no motivation to get out and play for 60 minutes a day. As I was going to school as a young kid I was always very active and moving around for at least? 60 minutes everyday. I was very happy as a young boy to have gym class everyday and to be able to move around for about 45 minutes every gym class. It was always a huge deal for our teachers because they know that we need to move around to keep healthy balanced lifestyles as young children. It also helped us stay more focused in class because we have used up some energy.

As our school days went, on we needed to eat some food as lunch time came around we had a hot lunch option or we could bring our own lunch from home. Only on special day I had hot lunch because most of the time the food was not good for us. The foods we are giving our kids to eat at our schools to be healthier then what we had as kids. “Schools play a critical role in improving the dietary and physical activity behaviors of children and adolescents. Schools can create environments supportive of students’ efforts to eat healthy and be active by implementing policies and practices that support healthy eating and regular physical activity and by providing opportunities for students to learn about and practice these behaviors." As we can see from the study's, schools play a huge role on how our young today can live a happy and healthy life if their school can provide them with healthy meals everyday at lunch time and we need exercise for 60 minutes a day to brighten our future. The youth of today will be much more healthy and will be able to grow old without the worry of getting diseases because of being obese. This is why a lot of kids have their parents make them their own lunch so they can have a healthy well-balanced meal everyday at lunchtime. Charlene Laino the author School Lunches Linked to Kids' Obesity said “study involved 1,076 middle school students” were more likely to become obese because of eating the lunch that the school provided to them everyday then if they brought their own lunch from home it also gave facts like,
School Lunch vs. Lunch From Home
• Were more likely to be overweight or obese (38.2% vs. 24.7%)
• Were more likely to eat two or more servings of fatty meats like fried chicken or hot dogs daily (6.2% vs. 1.6%)
• Were more likely to have two or more sugary drinks a day (19% vs. 6.8%)
• Were less likely to eat at least two servings of fruits a day (32.6% vs. 49.4%)
• Were less likely to eat at least two servings of vegetables a day (39.9% vs. 50.3%)

Facts like this show us that schools need to put better food out there for our kids to eat everyday. Our parents want to be able to send their kids to school knowing that the meal their children get is going to be a healthy choice. We need to work as a country to make the food better for our youth so they can grow old and have kids themselves keep out youth from becoming to obese that they end up have diseases later in there life. We all want our kids to grow old and take care of us when we are too old to do so ourselves So we need to make sure that the food we are having our kids eat while they are young and still getting their lunch though the schools to be healthier and well balanced. Our diet is also a big factor in how healthy we are.

We need to make our schools more responsible for the food they are putting out for our kids to eat healthy in school. We need to make the kids become more aware of what they are taking in as they are still growing and need the best foods and nutrition to have a health long life. The kids don’t really know the causes nutritional value of the food they are eating. They are unaware of what the food can do to their body. I know when I was a little boy I didn’t really know what to eat I was just told "eat this," or "eat that," but I didn’t know why I had to eat it. This is why it is on our parents and schools to work together to find a great solution to help kids find healthy foods to eat everyday. We need the food of our schools to have the all the daily products we need from the Food pyramid. The pyramid is something I remember from when I was in school and how they always told us to eat right so you can live a healthy life style and a happy one as well. In doing so we also had gym classes everyday and as we went up in grades we had less and less gym time. I think we need to keep have gym classes until we are out of high school because I know it will beneficial to everyone to still be active for 60 minutes a day. The NFL and Play60 are teaming up to help kids live a happier and healthier life style. We need all the help we can get from our schools and family.

In closing, I wanted to go over my main points. First, how obesity has increased over the past 30 years and how it will continue to grow if we don’t do something to stop it. Second, how lack of physical activity correlates to being overweight and obese. We need to make sure that our schools for our youth are providing good meals to our kids and that they are getting 60 minutes of activities a day. Last, making sure that the food we are giving kids to eat is healthy and meets the right nutritional level that our youth need to have a healthy body. We need to know that obesity is a problem in our youth today and that it needs to be fixed in the near future. This is a fact that jumped out at me “Obesity now affects 17% of all children and adolescents in the United States triple the rate from just one generation ago" (CBC, Childhood Overweight and Obesity). If this does make us want to change the way think about obesity in our country then we need to in a hurry. We need to watch the foods we give our kids. We need to watch that the food they are given at school and what kinds of activities our boys and girls do to help keep them from becoming obese. In saying all of this I believe that having the kids exercise everyday for 30 minutes will be the best solution.

I believe that the best think is to have the kids have some source of activity everyday that are at school I believe that this will help the kids greatly. If we don’t want our kids to become obese we need to make the changes necessary to help them. We need to make if an everyday thing for them to get up and play.
“The Presidential Youth Fitness Program helps physical educators assess, track, and recognize youth fitness and physical activity. Forged from a first-of-its-kind partnership, the Presidential Youth Fitness Program emphasizes the value of being active—in school and for a lifetime. It supports physical educators following the national standards and grade-level outcomes for physical education that are designed to develop physically literate individuals.”
This is one o the best programs that school already have in place to help kids have a happy and healthy life style. “Children become overweight and obese for a variety of reasons. The most common causes are genetic factors; lack of physical activity”(WebMD) this is why I want to bring this program. The program help the kid have a higher self-esteem, it helps them have better academic. Most of all it helps our kids become healthier and live as long as god lets them. I think that this will be the best think we can do because it will be the most cost effective “Year 1 total: $1,402 value for a school of 500 students with two physical educators”(Presidential Youth
Fitness Program) this I so cost effective that it only cost 3 dollars for every student to play for this program a year. This will be better then changing the food because it said in Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 it would cost “Middle and high school students will be paying an additional 25 cents per lunch”(Dills) so in saying that it would cost the students to pay 75 more dollars a year. Where as if they change to the Presidential youth fitness program they will only have to pay 3 more dollars a year. As you can see the physical activity would be more cost effect then the changing of the school lunch program. This will be the best solution for the kids because they all want to have fun and what more fun then just eating good food for you. Kids want to play and have fun with their friends. I know when I was a kid I didn’t care about have good healthy food. All I wanted to do was to play with all of the other kids in school. The presidential youth fitness program is the best solution to the problem for the least amount of money and all the kids have to do is to learn from their gym teachers. There is no weight lost program that does involve some kind of physical activity to help lost the weight. In my research it shows that “Schools play a particularly critical role by establishing a safe and supportive environment with policies and practices that support healthy behaviors. Schools also provide opportunities for students to learn about and practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. “(CDC). As we can see the school play a big part in helping the families of the kids going to school help there kids stay healthy and happy. Every where I look at making kids healthier the two thing that came up every time were eat well and become more physically active. So after seeing that some and doing more research I have come the conclusion that be physically active for 60 minutes more through out the day. We all have to remember that it doesn’t have to be at one time but when we are at school I know I makes more sense to have an hour of physical activity at one time.

There are many a few other arguments that can be made one is limit they kids TV in take it will help the kids move around more and not sit in one place all day long. In watching TV they have
“Reports that kids and teens ages 8 to 18 spend, on average, about six hours a day in front of a screen, that's four hours a day watching TV and two hours playing video games or using the computer for non-homework activities. (Trimarchi)”
In saying that it already has the solution of moving around like presidential fitness. They also say that you can sleep more and “Kids who are 10 years old or older and teens need nine or more hours of sleep every day, but more than 90 percent of teens don't get that much” (Trimarchi) be healthier with is true but don’t work for schools. The school is a place for the kids to learn not to sleep. Eating breakfast, they say, will help the kids be healthier and it helps you lose weight, most people are unaware of that. If our son or daughter is being active they will be able to tell if they have been eating good meals or not and because of the physical activity you will be able to see if the food they are eating is affecting their health. I think having family meals can help reduce your family's risk for becoming overweight and I know when we were growing up we had to eat health food and eat are vegetables and fruits. Teaching kids how to properly take care of their bodies is one of the keys to fighting obesity. I think that all of theses other solution are good and would work but we are talking about how could the schools help the kids become healthier as they grow older. Although we all have different thing we think are going to make our life better like protein shakes, diet pills, eating organic food, going to sleep on time and for enough time, limiting you electronic usage. As I have state eating right is the best possible solution if we have enough money as a school to help the kids become less obese. All of the other solution don’t work unless you eat right and become more physically active for more then 60 minutes a day.

In saying all of that I think that it is clear that obese is an issues in the United State youth. A big part of the problem is what we eat and what we do with are free time as a kid we all sometimes just want to lay on the couch and eat chips but that is not a healthy life style. We know now that what we eat and how we take care of are body has a huge impact on our health, as we grow older. We can see now over research that if we can eat healthy and be active for 60 minutes a day that we can live longer then those who eat bad food and are not active. We can have heart problems, diseases, and diabetes all of theses health issues can come from our physical health. We need to help our youth become healthier people because those are the people that will be on earth after we live. The mains points that I have made in this paper are that obese is a huge issues in American. Then we need to take action and making our schools around the country implement the Presidential Youth Fitness Program to decrease the number of obese kid I our schools. Last, I made it clear that the presidential youth fitness program is the best possible solution for are schools to working to their schools with the littlest problems and issues. It is the best cost for the time we need to help our youth become healthy as fast as possible. In closing the solution of have the Presidential Youth Fitness Programs implemented is the best option for the school across American.
