Wiki Name Page Instructions

create a Name Page (or primary page) for yourself.

  1. Make sure your name is spelled correctly under the "Class List" section on our home page. If not, click on the 'edit' button and fix it. It is much easier to change now than after you have created the page and added content.
  2. Click on your name. The wiki will tell you that the page does not exist and ask you if you want to create it. You do. As soon as you click on 'create page' an edit box will appear.
  3. Start adding content. Remember to save frequently!

All of your work will be linked to this name page. Think of it like the preface and table of contents for a book.

On your page you need:

  • an introduction. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
  • headings to separate and draw attention to the different sections
  • a link with your email address.
  • a picture of yourself, or some representation thereof. Up to you, but keep it somewhat professional.
  • a list of links to pages you like — things you are interested in.
  • a link to the Purdue OWL

The best way to learn how to use the wiki is to play around with it. Try bold, italics, headings, whatever. You won't break it.

If you need help, check out the First Time User page, the wiki syntax quick reference page, or the more detailed wiki syntax page.

To see how someone did something on a page, click the 'edit' button and see the code they used. Copy. Paste. Remix. Save.

If you have trouble, come and see me during my office hours on Thursday: noon to 2pm (HS 349: go up the stairs by the lab all the way to the 3rd floor and head down that hallway — I am the 7th door on the right)

These are due Thursday, January 15 at midnight.

Then, look around at your colleagues' pages and get to know each other.
